Thinking about starting a blog to make money but don’t know what to blog about? Fret not, because in today’s blog post, I will list some of the most popular and profitable blogging niches that you could get started with.
But before we get there, let’s get a couple of things out of the way:
What is a Niche?
A niche is the main topic of your blog. The main thing that you will focus on in all your content. Think of it as a category of content that your blog will be specialized in.Â
There are sub-niches, or sub-categories that you could include in your main niche to have diversified content.
For example, if your chosen niche is the travel niche, you would write content that is similar to this:
- 20 things to do in Paris in 48 hours.
- My experience backpacking in Goa in (insert year here).

Now, within the travel niche, you may want to have sub-niches or concentrate on only one sub-niche or a couple. Here are some examples of travel sub-niches:

Why Should You Choose One Niche And Not Many?
I hear this question quite a lot when it comes to new bloggers. Well, of course you could blog about a million different things on your blog, but I for one like to focus all my time and effort on one thing at a time.Â
The reason behind that is that, if you blog about multiple niches, your visitors will not be interested in all that you are writing about. So you will have to work really hard on not only identifying, but also attracting different visitors that are interested in different things. Why make so much effort and put a missive hole in your pocket (if you are using paid traffic)? Wouldn’t it be better to only study one type of audience and learn about their wants and needs?Â
Therefore, if you pick one niche (and or sub-niche), chances are your readers will be more interested in your blog and your content.
How to Choose a Niche?
Now we’re starting to get a little deeper into this topic. Many people think of so many niches on the internet, but have a hard time choosing one to go with.Â
There are a few questions you need to ask yourself before you choose a niche, but I have summarized them in these 3 very important ones:
1. Are you passionate about this topic?
As the question states, are you passionate? Or if not passionate, do you at least have enough interest in this topic? Do you enjoy talking about it? Writing about it?Â
2. Do you have some knowledge about it?
I am not asking you to be an expert in the field, but at least that you know something about it. And if you don’t know much, are you willing to invest time to learn more about it and do research?
3. Is it profitable?
Now, while I understand that you may not know if this niche is profitable, there is a very easy way to find out. Ask yourself: are there products that are selling that are related to this niche? Are the products popular?
Another way to find out if your niche is profitable is to look for other blogs/bloggers in the same niche. Some bloggers like to publish their monthly income reports with details of their income sources. If you can find such blogs, find out approximately how much they are making monthly and you will have your answer.
If your answer to the above 3 questions is yes, then you have your niche!
