How To Promote Your Blog Post

How To Promote Your Blog Post?

As bloggers and content creators, we have two main responsibilities:

1 – Create content consistently.

2 – Promote that content.

In the end, it all boils down to these two very important components in our journey as bloggers. If you write amazing content, and let it collect virtual dust on your website, chances are you will be the only person reading that content. Well, maybe you, your mom (who is your biggest fan), your distant cousin and your upstairs neighbor… So, basically nobody else will be looking at that masterpiece of yours. They don’t know who you are…

So, today I will cover a very important topic for all bloggers. Today we will talk about how to promote your blog post.

Why Promote your blog?

Well, if you want to build a list, build an audience, make sales or whatever your main goal is with your blog, you will have to put it out there and get as many eye balls on your content as possible, and then some more.

So how do you promote your blog?

There are so many ways you can use to promote your blog. Some of them can be free and time consuming, others are paid and get you fast results when done right. Paid traffic can be very profitable when you know what you are doing.

I will share with you the methods I use. They are a combination of both free (in terms of money, but time consuming, because there is no such thing as free traffic, period.) and paid methods. So let’s dive right in.

Write awesome content

Before you start thinking about how to promote your blog, you need a really good, no, GREAT piece of content ready to promote. If you write crap, people will come, but they won’t stick around. So it’s very important that whatever you publish be of super high quality. Think of delivering value whenever you publish something. Have your readers’ interest at heart and you will be surprised at the response you will get.

Another thing worth mentioning is that consistency is key. This is something I continue to work on and try to improve myself. We all have our “moments”, but it is important to keep your blog up-to-date with fresh content. If people like your stuff, they will want to come back for more. If they come back and only find old blog posts, they will stop coming.

Make your content Easily shareable

Make sure your share buttons are visible to your visitors so that they can share your content easily. My favorite sharing WordPress Plugin is Social Warfare. It’s free. It has a paid upgrade, but have been using the free version and it’s been working just fine. You can get it here.

Share your content on Medium

I have been sharing my videos on Medium.com for the past couple of months and, I although I didn’t really get into it the past couple of years, I have started getting new followers and new eye balls on my videos. It doesn’t hurt to get an extra backlink to your content!

Send your new blog post to your list

Your list is your number one fan. They have subscribed to your newsletter because they like you and hopefully trust you too. If you send them an email about your newly published piece of content, they will thank you for it.

Create a quick Facebook ad

If you haven’t already, you should have your Facebook pixel installed on your WordPress blog. Your pixel allows you to create audiences from the people who visit your website. You can then either re-market to that audience or create a lookalike audience to advertise to.

I have published a video about Facebook pixels. You can watch it here.

If you haven’t started getting any visitors yet and you don’t have a Facebook audience, don’t worry, I will create a tutorial soon about how to find audiences on Facebook. So stay tuned!

Quuu Promote

This cool little service has quickly become one of my favorite viral marketing tools in the past couple of months. Quuu Promote is a content marketing tool that gets your content shared on social media by people who are genuinely interested in your niche.

It can really boost your social proof and send you a couple hundred visitors to every blog post.

Quora

In case you haven’t heard about Quora, it’s a question-answer platform as the old Yahoo Answers used to be. Except that Quora has way more quality answers and can really boost your traffic if you are active on it and especially if you offer value in your answers.

You can get traffic from Quora two ways:

1 Answer related questions: If you have a piece of content about a certain topic, look for questions about the same thing. Write a value-rich answer and then you have the option to link out to your blog post.

2 Share a link to your latest blog post: so your followers can see it.

Linkedin Groups

As you may know, LinkedIn is a powerful social media platform for professionals. And just like Facebook, LinkedIn has small communities (sometimes large ones) around specific topics. To look for groups on LinkedIn, you simply need to do a quick search.

Then request to join the ones that you are interested in. Once you are approved, make sure you interact with other members before sharing your content. Like their posts, comment on their content etc. Don’t just dump your content on them and leave!

Start a Bing Ad

Bing Ads, which are now called Microsoft Ads, can be very effective and low-cost when done right. If you don’t have a budget for Facebook Ads, Bing Ads can be a very cost-effective option for you. If you are not sure how to get started on Bing Ads, just do a quick search on Google on how to do it. You can find plenty of tutorials online.

Pinterest Group Boards

If you are not using Pinterest, you are seriously letting a lot of traffic go to waste. Pinterest is a huge source of traffic for almost every niche. It does take a little work because you need to create high quality, pretty looking images (called pins), but it’s totally worth the time and effort you put in. I used to use Pinterest only for my travel blog, but then I realized that it can also be used for online marketing related content. I have only created my account a couple of months ago and I can already see some traffic coming in from this platform.

What are Pinterest group boards?

They are a bit like Facebook groups with the potential to grow your Pinterest followers and send you loads of traffic. However, unlike Facebook groups, you need to build up your account and have a few hundred followers before you request to join Pinterest boards. I don’t suggest you try to join any boards when you get started. Establish your Pinterest account first, add some pins and follow some people, get some followers, then you can think about joining boards. If the board owner likes your pins (content on Pinterest), they will happily approve your request to join their board.

I have written a short Pinterest tutorial some time ago on my buddy Jay’s blog. You can check it out here.

I know it’s a bit old, but you can get the basics about Pinterest and how to grow your following there.

Convert your blog post into a video and rank it on YouTube!

Video is super powerful as you already know. If you are not using video to market your content, uhmmm… where have you been? No, seriously, where have you been? LOL

I think every blogger should leverage the power of YouTube and add it to their marketing strategy. If you don’t feel comfortable putting yourself in front of the camera, you do not have to. You can use slides, or choose from the large selection of video creation software in the market.

If you are already using video as part of your marketing strategy and are still struggling to rank your videos in YouTube, I suggest you check out this video SEO checklist.

If you are serious about video marketing and video SEO and would like to take it to the next level, I highly recommend this course.

How To Promote Your Blog: Conclusion:

These are the steps I follow to promote every blog post I publish. There are so many other ways to promote your content of course, but I wanted to share what I do. If you like this post, please leave me a comment and tell me what you do to promote your content.

    • You can turn your blog post into slides and then record a voiceover then upload to YouTube. You can also choose a video creation software. One of my favorites is Content Samurai. It creates stunning videos. You can get a trial here: https://thedotcomgal.com/cstrial Good luck!
